Texas A&M Announces $550M Texas Medical Center Complex


The Texas A&M University System revealed plans to build a $550-million complex in Houston’s Texas Medical Center area. Once completed, the development will house the university’s Engineering Medicine (EnMed) program, while providing housing for medical and nursing students in Houston. Medistar Corp. is the developer.

  • Renovation of an 18-story building at 1020 Holcombe Rd. for the EnMed program. Renovation is scheduled for a summer 2020 completion.

  • Ground-up construction on a 704-bed, 572-unit student-housing facility, which will include a 1.2-million-square-foot garage. The project will deliver by June 2022.

  • Ground-up construction on a 30-story medical office building which will offer 72,000 square feet of retail space and 8,700 square foot of green space. Completion is expected in June 2023.

“We saw a need for student housing and medical offices in Houston. Plus, our EnMed students needed the facilities to create the latest medical devices,” Texas A&M Vice Chancellor Greg Hartman said.
