Out-of-town visitors who shop til they drop at Frisco’s giant Stonebriar Centre could soon have a new place to crash.
A proposal is in the works to build a Hyatt Regency hotel that connects to the mall. The hotel, which would be a minimum of 15 stories and 295 rooms, would also include a city-owned conference center and a small space for the city’s public library.
The hotel is being proposed by the Dallas-based Sam Moon Group, which owns the Sam Moon Trading Co. and has recently branched into the hotel business. SMG has formed Moon Stonebriar Hotel Ltd. to acquire a portion of land from General Growth Properties for the hotel project.
“This is a well-thought-out plan that is a huge amenity and addition to the mall,” Frisco Mayor Maher Maso said. “It keeps the mall area very vibrant.”
The project is proposed to be built on the mall’s northwest side between Dillard’s and Nordstrom. Stonebriar Centre mall, which opened in August 2000, has always had room for another anchor in that area.
“That spot has been on our radar for a long time,” said Maso, noting that a lot of effort is being made to integrate the hotel project with the mall. Read Full Story
